Meditation is an art form and fun activity, much like visiting all the wonderful areas around Cedar City. Southern Utah Museum of Arts (SUMA) is a great place to meditate whether you are meandering through awe-inspiring exhibits of regional artists or exploring the body of work in its 2,000 object permanent collection!
Now SUMA offers another body of work to explore - yours! This unique Southern Utah Museum is combining art and yoga to create the perfect meditation environment. The program Art & Wellness will be offered Monday, Feb. 24, March 16 & 30 and April 6 & 20. Under the direction of instructor Melissa Adams, these sessions for adults last 30 minutes and offer a sampling of different types of medative activities to help adults "improve focus, positivity and a deeper connection to one’s self," according to information provided by SUMA. The program promises to teach:
- pranayama breathing
- silence
- crystal bowl sound therapy
For friends of the museum and their sidekicks, these classes are free. Any adult can participate for just $5!
Located at 13 S 300 W, Cedar City, UT 84720, SUMA is on the campus of Southern Utah University and is part of the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts, which also includes the Utah Shakespeare Festival.
Cedar City (and all of Southern Utah, including the residential home communities of New Harmony) are lucky to enjoy the benefits of an active art, culture and wellness community that complements a healthy community of educators and learners at Southern Utah University! I hope you'll step out of (or into) your comfort zone and take advantage of all our beautiful high-desert city has to offer!
