Cedar Mountain, east of Cedar City is a gift that just keeps giving. Every year I find a new trail or area to explore for activities around Cedar City. Kids Pond at Woods Ranch is one of those places residents here go back to time and time again. If you're ready to introduce your children to the wonders of nature and the joys of fishing ... this really is the place.
Woods Ranch Offers Room to Roam
Woods Ranch is located just about 12 miles up Cedar Canyon on State Route 14 (east of town). This is one of Utah's Scenic By-Ways and the short drive is breath-taking.
Pack a picnic because you're going to want to stay awhile! In fact, bring the family for a wedding, reunion or gathering of any kind because there are two big pavilions there. Bring a football or baseball because there's plenty of room for a friendly competition. You will also find a volleyball court and public restrooms at this site. The pavilions are available on a first-come, first-served basis sometimes. During warmer months it could be tricky to get in without an advanced reservation. Click here to view the area's event's calendar and make reservations. You can also call (435) 865-5325 for more information.
Fishing is Fine Here
Once you arrive at Woods Ranch, you will find a short trail to hike to Kids Pond where the fishing is always good and reserved especially for those under 12. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources keeps the 1.2-acre pond well-stocked with rainbow trout. Kids under 12 fish free as long as they are accompanied by a licensed adult. The limit is 2.
I love this place because the forest is lush with aspen and pine trees. The scent of nature is so calming and relaxing. Who couldn't stand a few hours of relaxation? You can really create some memories - and makes it all the more difficult for someone to head back to their new home in Enoch!
