No Trailer Required: From the Garage to Hidden Mountain Meadows
One of the absolute best perks of living in Cedar City: a license plate on a side-by-side.
The other day, we didn’t bother with trailers, tie-downs, or loading up a truck. We just backed the machine right out of the garage, drove down the street, and pointed it toward the dirt roads on the edge of town. When your off-road vehicle is completely street-legal, adventure doesn't require a weekend's worth of planning—it just requires turning the key after work.
We had absolutely no destination in mind. We just drove, exploring whichever dirt road looked right at the time.
The deeper we went, the more the standard high-desert terrain started to open up, giving way to massive red rock formations and wide-open mountain meadows. Tucked away in the green grass, we started finding these beautiful patches of pink wildflowers blooming all along the trail.
But the real jackpot of the day was sitting right in the middle of the mountains: a quiet, hidden reservoir.

There is something perfect about spending your afternoon surrounded by dust and engine noise, and then shutting off the machine to step out by a clear, glassy lake. The water was completely still, perfectly reflecting the blue sky, the clouds, and the surrounding trees. It felt like an unscripted, hidden paradise.
We spent the afternoon just wandering near the water, soaking in the view, and enjoying a truly wonderful day.
You don't need a massive itinerary or a map to find the good stuff around here. Sometimes, you just need a street-legal machine, a couple of open dirt roads, and a willingness to see what the backyard decides to show you.
